Human beings are wired for connection, but relationships can be hard. Adding to that complexity is an often fraught relationship with self. Therapy can help clients get to know themselves honestly, identify strengths and values, and develop self acceptance and appreciation. It can also increase awareness in relationships with others, define healthy boundaries, and improve communication skills.
The only constant in life is change. Transitions to a new school, career moves, shifts in partnerships or family, death or illness experienced by self or loved ones, etc. are often challenging. Feeling grounded, capable, and courageous around these transitions makes an impact. Therapy can assist clients to achieve a sense of confidence and well-being in uncertain times.
Symptoms of depression and anxiety are common, and vary from brief in duration to debilitating. It is generally acknowledged that thoughts precipitate feelings, which then motivate behavior. Therapy can assist clients to identify thoughts and beliefs contributing to distressing symptoms. Therapy can also help clients find new ways of thinking, coping, and perspective taking to improve mental health.
Children are not the same as adults. They typically cannot engage in hypothetical, abstract, and higher level cognition until approximately age 11. As a result, traditional talk therapy is not always effective for children. Play therapy takes a child’s developmental stage into account, tapping into their most natural means of learning and processing: play.
